Established in 2011, Tamar Energy provides organic waste management solutions through its award-winning network of anaerobic digestion (AD) plants and composting sites around the UK.
Tamar is one of the UK’s leading food waste recycler and operator of AD plants, and is making a positive contribution towards the UK’s waste management commitments and renewable energy targets.
Our composting sites recycle large volumes of green waste and commingled (green and food) waste into a locally produced, environmentally-friendly, nutrient-rich soil improver. The AD plants recycle food waste into secure, reliable renewable energy to power thousands of homes and a valuable biofertiliser.
Founded following an award-winning landmark institutional fundraise, Tamar is backed by a mix of influential shareholders including The Duchy of Cornwall, The Rothschild family, RIT Capital Partners plc, Fajr Capital and Sainsbury’s.
We have pushed forwards the boundaries of the UK’s AD sector with many of our achievements: In addition to winning awards for our teams and operations, the Renewable Energy Association named Tamar Energy the 2014 “Renewable Energy Company of the Year”. Tamar signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (‘PPA’) with EDF Energy for its generation portfolio in December 2014. In February 2015, Tamar announced a landmark £32million non-recourse debt financing agreement with the Royal Bank of Scotland – the first of its kind in the UK AD sector.
